After July update KB5062553 HDR, Language input issues seen

The monthly updates to Windows 10 and Windows 11 were released yesterday. Since these updates include numerous under-the-hood code changes along with new features, there is a possibility that some Windows features may not function correctly after installing the update. Concurrently, the monthly updates this month are also not different. People have reported that after installing the update to Windows 11 24H2, KB5062553 HDR does not work on their displays.

There are multiple reports in the Microsoft QA forums that HDR is not working (which can be found here and here) after installing the monthly update to Windows 11 24H2. Since the update is relatively new, it is expected that the number of reports will rise in the next few days.

Win + ALT + B keys enabling HDR

The toggle for HDR is not visible when the user attempts to enable HDR using the Windows key + ALT + B combination. Additionally, the HDR also does not turn off or on.

Currently, Microsoft has not released a public fix for this issue. Currently, the solution is to remove the July update and then pause it. See the steps below for the same:

  1. Open the Windows Recovery environment using these instructions.
  2. Choose the Troubleshoot option.
  3. Select “Uninstall Updates,” then choose either “Uninstall Latest Quality Update” or “Uninstall Latest Cumulative Update.”
  4. Allow the process to complete.

Furthermore, after the update is uninstalled, go to Settings > Windows Update > Pause the update for 7 – 14 days.

Cross-device Clipboard also not working after KB5062553

More reports from the QA forums indicate that the Cross device clipboard, which works with the Phone Link app, where you can copy and paste items between your Phone and PC, is not functioning after installing the July update. More to follow on this later.

Various Input methods also have issues

Microsoft has confirmed an issue when the Chinese input Changize isn’t working with KB5062553.

This issue only affects devices where Traditional Chinese is a preferred or common language or input method, and specifically where Changjie IME is used. Reported symptoms include:

inability to form or select words after typing the full composition (associate phrase window)
spacebar or blank key not responding
incorrect or distorted word outputs
the conversion candidate window fails to display properly
Microsoft Changjie is an IME that is included in Windows and available in currently supported versions.

Workaround: Windows IME supports a compatibility setting that allows using the previous version of an IME instead. Employing this option should help resolve this issue.

Similar reports are seen for Indic Phonetic languages as well

To summarize, KB5062553 HDR issues are being seen on many devices.
