While Windows 10 allows you to easily pin shortcuts for universal apps to the Start menu and the taskbar, there isn’t a straightforward method to create shortcuts for these apps on the desktop. Here’s a workaround:
1. Open the Run dialog box by right-clicking the Start button and selecting “Run.”
2. Type in `shell:windowsapps` and press Enter.
This will open all the Windows apps in an Explorer window.
Right click the app and select create shortcut-name it and you are good to go..
This is extremely helpful when your start menu doesn’t work and you want to launch any modern app.
Alternative
In addition to this, you can also launch app using run dialog box .We would require the protocol name to launch the app. Here are the protocol names and the apps that should be entered in Run:

As we are using Protocols,remember to add colon(:) everywhere in run otherwise it would throw that application is not found.
